Broken valve cover bolt in head

Broken valve cover bolt in head
Well I snapped a valve cover bolt in the head yesterday. Tried to drill it out with little luck. I do not want to remove the head to take it in to get fixed.
Is there a special bit I can use to drill it out? I broke about 5 bits trying.

Depending on where the bolt snapped, here is what you want to do.
1) Flatten out the break with a dremel.
2) Center Punch the Bolt. This is important as it will give the drill bit something to bite into and will be in the center of the bolt.
3) Drill it out, using a regular drill, or a reverse drill bit, either one.

On some bolts I take a nut that just fits the bolt, even if it is broke off flush and I center the nut over the bolt and mig it onto the bolt. Then I try to thread it out. You make have to make several attempts before you get it out but that with the combination of heat from welding will get the job done.

Take a very sharp center punch and put it dead center of the broken bolt and give it a light tap. Take the smallest drill bit you have and drill down the center of the bolt. (If the bits you have wont drill it buy a new set of bits because it's not that hard of a bolt) I'd start with about 1/8 inch bit and mark the depth of the hole but just putting it into another hole You then use a peice of masking tape and put it around the bit so you don't drill to deep. Keep moving the drill size bigger until you get to the threads. You can take a pick and just pick the rest of the bolt out or just run a tap down the hole.
It's just a matter of being patiant and keeping the drill angle correct.
