burning coolant! need some help.
#11
It was definitly burning coolant. There was quite a bit of white smoke coming out of the pipes. It was also leaking onto the ground. The leak was very close to the #8 cylinder plug and that plug was always wet when i checked it. I currently have the upper and lower intakes off. I am going to do my best to look for the leak and i hope its not the head gasket because the job looks like its going to be a bit tough to do. What are the best gaskets to use when putting this back together? Should i use any rtv?

if you pull the heads off dont take it for granted that they are straight, have them checked out before you reinstall them, they may be slightly warped from improper installation or overheating, dont be surprised if they need to be shaved. as far as gaskets for aluminum heads ive had good luck with rol graphite coated gaskets, no sealer is needed! as far as intake i use good ol felpro and theve never let me down, just use sealer on the lower intake end rails. a little tip i use to make sure the lower intake gaskets dont slip is to take 4 old intake bolts and cut the heads off, then cut a slot into the top of the bolt, this way you screw the (now called studs) into the 4 corners and install your gaskets over top of the studs now its impossible for the gaskets to slip. then with the lower intake on start a couple of bolts and unscrew the studs, now you know for certain those bastards didnt slip on ya! just have a good torque wrench and stick to the torque sequence for the heads, lower and upper intake, its critical! good luck
