I would really like to know to how reverse works too, the second gear thing is internet hear say.

I never took reverse out to know cause my transmsission was in pretty good running shape before it came apart. Only one syncoro had any wear on it.

reverse is flat cut gears(which is why reverse whines when you go fast enough in reverse) with no syncro. when you shift into reverse it has a rod that goes through the left side of the case attached to the 5th gear shift fork. when you go into reverse it pulls this rod straight back which is reverse. if its still spinning, they clash. thats why you much put your trans into another gear to stop the spinning of yoru input shaft to go into reverse without clashing. here is a picture for you to see what i am talking about.
