Default 92 5.0 ignition woes

I have a 92 Lx which has developed a problem. The engine fires and runs when the key is in the start position, but will not stay running when the key is in the on/run position. I don't think its related, but I had to replace the soleniod about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Try changing the ignition cylinder.

I had to change my switch 2 times already. It is very easy and inexpensive, its a good place to start and that fixed my problem that was the same as yours. It would run if you played with the key and got it in the perfect place. If not it would shut off.

Hi guys, I replaced the switch and still have the same problem. This problem is making me pull my hair out, it will run ok for a few minutes and then cutting off just like I had turned the key off and on. Thanks for the tips I'll have to see what else I can check.

I had the same type of problem and it was the ignition switch to start. Then about 3 weeks later it started again, it went to the point where nothing would happen with the key. It turned out to be a linkable fuse going to alternator, it actually ruined the alternator but now its fixed and runs great.
