Default NEED HELP!!!!!

hey everyone i need help desperately. I have an 87' Stang and i been having trouble starting my car lately after i drive it. A wire that is connected to the ground side of the battery (i believe its 10 gauge wire) that leads to the body in between the starter relay and the battery caught on fire when i went crank the engine. Where that wire connects to the body it is spliced in with another wire. I figured the fire was bc of high amperage going through the wire which means it has to be a mechanical problem so i took my starter into the local parts store and it was producing more than 250 amps so i replaced it and the same problem occured so i replaced the starter relay as well and the same wire caught on fire AGAIN. What is the problem and what is that wire for?!...is it just a chassis ground?!?!?! Someone please help!!!!!!

hows about,... instead of asking if its a chassis ground, you get your butt out there and check it yourself

my crystal ball is currently being fixed, otherwise i'd give it a rub, some eeny-meeny-chili-beanie.. and get you an answer

I sure hope you are not trying to reuse the wire that caught fire, it is most likely shorted to ground /touching the body somewhere if it is a live wire

check all your grounds, high resistance in grounds or wires will cause excessive current draw

dont post a question until you have check everything on your end and have eliminated all options... we dont get paid to figure out whats wring with your car...

a forum is a place for information, and bull****ting... If you want your car fixed, bring it to a mechanic, you obviously have NO trouble shooting skills... AT ALL
