Amp light during acceleration

Amp light during acceleration
Hi. I have a 1988 Mustang GT 5.0. My amp light started coming on today while I am accelerating through first and second gear. It fades off when the car shifts into third. It does not come on if I accelerate slowly. Any ideas as to what may cause this to happen? Thanks.

Could be belt slippage but chances are your alternater is going.Get a tester and see what its putting out for amps should be up over 13.5 while running if its any good
