Default 1980 Mustang Tranny and dash questions

I just bought a 80 Mustang with a 5.0 swap from a 4 cyl. The trannys junk and would rather have a 5 speed anyways. So my question is a t-5 from a 90 5.0 will mount right in a 80 won't it? Its the same car from 79-93 so I don't see why it wouldn't.

Also the 80 dash is ugly as **** so it's gotta go. The 90 dash will mount in there won't it? I know the wiring will probably be different but that's ez just seeing if the bolt pattern is the same.

Thanks for the help I will have many more questions as this is a good project car for me.

My memory is failing me..do not remember the dash having a pilot bearing. Why not get some gauges and build a real cool instrument cluster? Bubba

I love the 4 eye fox gauge clusters. They can be very tasteful if done properly.

The 90 dash will not fit easily, no dash will except the year it was made. why did you buy a 4 eyed fox if you planned on doing this whole swap? Also, dont go with a t-5, if anything go with a tko or a t-45 or else you will go through alot of trannies if you plan on making anything above 250HP

seen early Fox cars with late model dashboards...but the owners say it's a pain. gut the 80 cluster and put all Autometer gages in it.

Only things i dont like about the dash is the idiot lights on the right side near the shifter, and the steering wheel. Was about to buy an 86 GT with a 88motor swap and front clip rear bumper swap. Guy decided to sell under me, oh i was pissed, but i have a fondness of those interiors now.

Doing a dash swap is not hard at all. The only thing that needs to be done is bending the tabs at the bottom of the windshield. You will also need to get the heater box and ducting with the new dash. Most people just don't like removing any dash at all and say its a pain but its really not.

86 5.0L Love what you did to that dash that looks bad ***!

I work at a junk yard and got the 90 dash for free yesterday. That's one reason for the swap. Second I like the 90 style dash and want mine all custom. Besides the dash and console nothing else is from the 80. Oops door panels as well. But after seeing 86 5.0L's dash I may reconsider the swap. That looks bad ***.

On another note for my T-5 swap finished that awhile back and it went with out a hassle. A bad note I was sold a tranny with bad sycros so if in a high rpm it grinds going into second only in high rpm though. Looks like a rebuild this winter.

One question I do have though. Awhile back a found a diagram where it shows what each wire pin is for on the cluster for the 80 and for the 90. For the life of me I can not find it any one know what I'm talking about?
