Default tighting exhaust bolts

Is it alright to use loctite on header bolts? Will they come back off down the road without damage i guess is what I'm asking. I am having a problem with the bolts backing off and there is nowhere near to me to get stage 8 locking fasteners or anything.

Especially if you have aluminum heads always use antiseize on unlike metals.

I just have gt40p heads nothing aluminum. So I shouldn't use loctite on them? I looked at the stage 8 fasteners on ebay and just cant justify the cost even though they are supposed to work really well.

Lock tite won't work; it's softened/loosened/de-activated by heat.

The stage 8's are apretty good choice. But they're expensive and can be a pain to work with.

Percey's makes a locking expansion bolt that's pretty nice. Again, kinda expensive in the short term.

A cheap alternative is to use an internal star washer. Split lock washers only work when the bolt starts to loosen. But because of the expansion/contraction of the base metal, they do work well on header bolts. Stage 8 uses a split lock washer.

Pick a bolt with a small 6 point head. The bigger bolts can be impossible to get a wrench around. A 6 point bolt allows you to use an open end wrench.

Just a thought but I used to have the same problem many years ago with brand x cars when i used headers and mufflers only. The shaking on the exhaust has a way of working the bolts loose.Anyway make sure your exhaust is tight and in hangers where it supposed to be.

The exhaust is supported properly with all the proper hangers so it should be fine in the regard.
bob, what do you mean when you talk about an internal star washer?

They look like this: http://www.almabolt.com/pages/catalog/washers/star.htm

They grab the bolt head and the base material and hold on tight.
