Default popping noise when pushing in clutch

Thanks all in advance. I have an 87 and i replced the clutch about 300 miles ago along with pilot bearing and throwout bearing and flywheel and tri ax short throw. I had already had the firewall adjuster replaced. it feels great shifts fine much better with the new shifter but now i get a popping noise which feels like its coming from the firewall when i push in the clutch as i dont have anyone to help push in the clutch while i check around but also seems like its coming from under the car. It pops about 5 out of ten times but other than that shifts nicely. and just to make sure its adjusted right how far should i have to push the clutch in or adjust the clutch cable to engage the clutch right now i push in about a quarter of the way. Thanks all and sorry about the long post trying to give as much info as possible.

Have you changed the qaudrant under the dash?? It sounds like your stock plastic quadrant is taking a $hi#. They have plastic teeth and they where at over time. I would start with changing that.

so i finally had my wife press the clutch while i listened and its coming from the clutch fork some where in there. Its a brand new throwout bearing in there the fork lookied good so i reused it. does anyone know what causes this clicking sound. Is it improperly adjusted or not enough grease. its only around 200 miles since the clutch change.

I had something similar hapen with mine. the end of the clutch cable (where it attaches to the fork) was not seating properly in the hole. I adjusted it a few times and ultimately I replaced the fork. i couldent tell you what fixed it, if the fork was bent/bad or something else i did when i replaced the fork. but it went away. sorry im not much help but thats what happened to me.

my 93 had same issue, turned out to be the throw out bearing retainer, i replaced it with a steel one from summitt, no more noise.

Sounds to me like the throwout bearing is in the spring clip wrong on the fork. The lip end of the throwout bearing has to be on top of the U spring clip, not on the bottom, if the pawl and quadrant broke, the clutch pedal would hang down loose, also you need 3/4" of freeplay at the clutch pedal, when you press the clutch down it starts off with resistance, then the point where it starts having more resistance, thats your freeplay.
