Compression Test @ 158psi on 170K motor
I bought a 89 GT about a month or so ago. It has about 170k miles on the clock. I bought it with the plan to drop a crate motor in. It had a tap/squeak coming from the engine at first that was concerning me but after a fresh oil change and some Lucas oil treatment and about 400 miles it cleared up and runs great. It did not seem like a 170k mile motor. I did a compression test yesterday and all cylinders checked out at about 158. It has not used any oil and pulls hard all the way to redline. Totally stock except Flowmaster mufflers and K&N filter in stock airbox. I know there are no sure things but I am dancing a jig right now. I am thinking now of H/C/I and full exhaust on this motor and be able to do the other things like gears suspension etc. this winter while saving a few grand since I will not have to get the new motor right away. Any opinions? Is this possible with that many miles? I am really thinking now that the motor has been rebuilt or new short block. There are some signs like new fuel rails, new water pump etc. I really do not know the history of the car other than it was a one owner car who traded it in to Ford for a new Mustang and the Ford dealer wholesaled it to another car lot.

I was thinking of doing AFR 165 heads with either trickflow or Eldebrock intake, shorty headers and O/R H pipe. Vfast....what do you think about putting in a cam? I would like to do a B303 with 1.7 RR.

to be honest here I wouldn't go into the engine with having 170k....just bolt on's...when you start to raise cly pressure on a high mileage engine....valve guides ,seals and rings start go bad fair quickly....like I mention'd just bolt on's and while enjoy'in the car start buying cams, heads, etc
