I have 2005 gt 4.6, how can I do a leak down test with motor out of car and heads off. the number 5 cylinder had a crack and I had a new sleeve put in. same problem after new sleeve was put in and I need to figure out if the sleeve did not work or if there is another problem. the cylinder was defiantly cracked.

 

With the heads off the engine how will you do leak down? You have to seal the cylinder to test it for leak down so I don't see how you can do it, unless you fabricate some type of plate to fix to the engine to seal it.

 

lol, no leak down test. a this point i would call it quits on that block and get one that isnt cracked or sleeved

 

was the sleeve bored out to factory specs? did you replace the piston rings for that cylinder? piston? what state of build up is the motor in now? like jwog said, its gonna be tough to get a leak down test without the heads on. need more info

 

The heads have to be on the engine to leak down test it. Tear it down, send the block out to be magnafluxed and pressure tested. Chances are that block is wasted if you have had issues with it before.

 

Bad idea to throw more money at block that is already known to be messed up. Go to a Junk yard and find a motor to start fresh with.

If you insist on working with what you got. Send the heads and block out to an engine rebuild shop. They can test it correctly and magnaflux it as Granatelli stated and redeck it if needed.

 

This screams crate motor!
