erradic fuel pump
I have an electrical problem with my fuel pump. When I turn on the key, the new pump outputs a "burp" of fuel and no more. Where is the fuel pump relay located on a 1987 Mustang 5.0L car ?? I just learned where the inertia switch is located, so now I can go test the inertia switch. I have the pump out of the fuel tank and sitting in a gallon jug of gas. Thereby, I can observe the pump performance. The pump is hooked up to the car with the production wire bundle. HELP !!

Yeah only primes for a couple seconds, the inertia switch is there to help prevent a possible fire in case of an accident, in other words, will kill any and all pump operation. A relay going bad usually results in no pump operation or the pump to run consistantly. Did you actually have any running issues?

thanks
Thanks for the info, that is just what I needed. I went to the car and turned on the key, the fuel pump just "burped", then I hit the engine starter and the fuel pump ran.
