what is the leading cause of a sn95 to wonder all over the road?
5.0L (1979-1995) MustangTechnical discussions on 5.0 Liter Mustangs within. This does not include the 5.0 from the 2011 Mustang GT. That information is in the 2005-1011 section.
What you're experiencing is called Roll Steer. The main cause is dead front shocks. In roll steer, one wheel rises as the other falls. Typically this produces "toe in" on one wheel, and "toe out" on the other, thus producing a steering effect.
if the front shocks are bad, you can just push down on the front of the car a few times making it bounce. Stop bouncing and if the car keeps going then the struts are bad.
if you get your front wheels off the ground and try to turn the wheel with the steering wheel locked you're checking the tie rod ends more or less. What you're looking for is "excessive" movement. A little wiggle is normal. While you're at it grab the top and bottom of the wheel and repeat looking for excessive movement. This checks the wheel bearing.
do your tires have any bald spots? If they do take a pic and post it. Looking at abnormal wear patterns on a tire can tell you a lot about an alignment issue.
Are you hearing any wierd noises when turning? popping, grinding, etc?
ok i jacked it up there is someplay moves say a half inch back and forth. with steering wheel locked,
if the steering wheel is locked and the wheels still turn a half inch then the tie rod on that wheel is bad. do the same thing on the other wheel to check it as well.
to replace the tie rod, loosen the lock nut and take a can of light-colored spray paint and spray the threads lightly before you unscrew the tie rod. Now unscrew the tie rod and install the new one up to the new spray paint.
You'll have to take the car to an alignment shop to get aligned one you've replaced any worn parts.
im having a creaking coming from my rack as well, its an internal sound, and i dont know how to make it go away, how hard will it be for me to replace it, or should i take it in?
