Post Driveability issue..

Hi all, long time lurker first time poster. I have a 95 GT that recently started having trouble idling after she's warmed up. When the running issue happens it almost seems like a radical cam, the idle dips low and I have to hold the throttle to stay running. Afterminute or two of this it usually clears up and idles again. That being said, the idle is consistently at about 850, which I know to be high. I have checked for vacuum leaks, and have found none. More recently I noticed a rapping metallic sound like a timing chain that is worn. I decided to check timing (with spout disconnected) and at first the timing walks around but after 30 seconds or so, it stays consistent. It was at about 5 or so BTDC so I went ahead and went to adjust. When I adjusted to factory 10` and drove it again the noise was substantially more obvious and happened even under lighter acceleration. The distributor was very difficult to turn at first.. I'm really thinking my timing chain or gears are to blame.. Any thoughts?

Do a chain, and replace the PIP while you're in there.
