1988 Convertible Mustang Fuel Pump/Wiring Problems
Okay, So i picked up an 1988 convertible mustang a couple months ago. and i was driving it from michigan to south carolina, after a couple hours the fuel pump went out. so i stopped and got a brand new one put in, then it made it the rest of the way. but a week later the fuel pump went out again. so again i got it replaced with a brand new fuel pump (Since it was under warranty) but again, a week later the fuel pump went out again. I havent gotten a new one put in yet so its sitting in my garage. i was wondering if you guys would know any reasons that the fuel pump would be going out? it would be helpfull if i knew what was causing the problem. I also have subs wired into the trunk and thought maybe that could be causing the short? If you guys know whats wrong can you give me steps to fix it?

I think Id start with dropping the tank again . Turning on the key and start checkin the wiring starting at the sending unit up. Sounds like you may have a bad ground or maybe a loose connection possibly at the plug on the top of the sending unit. You can check the pump to see if it runs by hooking up a ground and direct power from the battery.
