Question AC issues - need advice

Just joined and have been looking for info on this without success.

I have a 1993 GT convertible with 40,000 miles on it. The A/C compressor has seized up and I'm getting different info from local shops.

One is telling me that everything, including the heater core, has to be replaced as the compressor sent debris through the system when it went.

Another shop is telling me that it just needs a compressor.

My car is like new and I want it done right but don't wish to be taken advantage of because I am a relatively unknowledgeable female.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Advise: pull the whole A/C out and enjoy the flexibility of being able to reach anything in the engine bay for fix. I did and couldn't be happier.

Default Way Too Hot...

here to go without AC.

And it would hurt the sale value when I put in on the market.

Thanks for the reply!

Heater core wouldn't require replacement, totally different system not tied together at all. I've personally never heard of a compressor "blowing up" and sending debris through the lines. Infact I'm almost positive it's impossible. Replacing the compressor should be enough, though you might need to do the condenser or receiver/dryer to have a working system, depends on the condition of the parts.
