Default Resto Not Moving

Hello everyone in MF,

My family has owned a '89 GT 5.0 since mile one. It has been handed around the family brothers and for the past 8 years has been sitting in the same spot on my parent's extra driveway.

After completing my time in the Army I wanted to start working on it with my older brother. Today I went to go push it into our extra garage, which will be where our resto will be taking place.

I put her in neutral and began to push with no avail. It seems as though I can push a couple of inches and then it returns to its resting place. The tires are not completely empty, but will not take any additional air. In addition it seems as though the wheels have made a depression in the driveway, although I do not think this is the only factor in it not moving.

Does anyone have any suggestion on how I can get her rolling. I only need it to move about 20 ft into the garage all of which is cement. All the help I could get would be much appreciated.

Welcome to MF. Did you leave the parking brake engaged all this time?

Brakes are rusted, you might try carefully towing it out of the spot where it has grown roots with another vehicle and a tow strap if possible.

Thanks for the quick responses. I am not aware of the parking brake being engaged while it was sitting. I also thought that it could be due to rusting.

With that said would the towing break the rust seal?
Where is the best place to attach a tow strap? (I would only be able to tow from the front)

Another thing Ive seen happen after they sit for a while is the ujoints get seized up or very stiff. It may help to pull the drive shaft out.

brakes rusted, tires have flat spots coupled with the ditch they are sitting in, hook up to it with your lawn tractor and do some wheelies!!!!

Thank you very much for all of your help. I ended up towing the car with a tow strap. It wasn't very difficult and I didn't hear any noise of something snapping so I have to attribute the problem to the divots the wheels were in.

I know have the issue of getting the wheel to turn. My father has not been able to find the keys to her. I called my local Ford dealership and they seemed not willing to make a new one. Would I be better replacing the ignition or breaking the steering column? I would rather not break the lock but if that is what is needed to get it in the garage then I will.

Replace the switch, but you'll have to drill it out. There's no need in messing up the steering column.
