Default transmission

how can I clean the old gasket off my valve body plate I have been picking at it with a razor blade but it getting to the point where the blade will do more damage than good if I continue.

There's no easy way to do it. Don't use any thing sharp. A dull putty knife would be what I would use.

You don't want to scratch that part....

Scotch-Brite Roloc Surface Conditioning Discs made by 3m if you have a die grinder or even a fast spinning drill moter. They work really well for removing old gasket material , made just for this purpose and will not remove any metal. They leave a very nice clean surface . If you don't have a die grinder you can just use the scotch brite pads that you would normally use for scouring pots and pans with but youll have to use a lot of elbow greese lol .

ok i will try that most of it is off just some of the edge spots are being stubborn.

do not use those on the valve body!!!, irregardless of what anyone says or will say, no matter what grit is used they score the surface/etch the surface, I don't even use them on aluminum heads anymore, just a razor blade, gasket remover spray in extreme cases and patience, valvebody surface is critical to keep the surface true as such was machined and not induce an uneven/or scored surface one bit.
