Default Exhaust Hangers

How the hell do you remove the exhaust hangers from the rubber grommets under the car? I've cut the tail pipe off so the only thing holding it still are the hangers, but I'll be damned if I can get them out of the rubber. I'm about ready to just cut the rubber but if there's a way to save them, I'd prefer that

I always use a screw driver on them and stretch it out a bit and squirt some oil or wd40 in it to help lube it up , they can be a pita to get out. I have found it easier if you try to get the hanger off the car and leave the rubber on the tail pipe because the barb doesn't move on the car and you can wedge something in there and pry it off.

I have been known to get mad and cut em though too lol

Lube them with something, almost anything liquid, and then a big pry bar (or a 2x4, or whatever). Pry against anything handy that will help push them out.... I have also sometimes like Dawson said, unbolted the hangar, and left them on the barb. Whatever works!

I got the driver side tail pipe off after wrestling with it forever. I used a pair of channel locks and squished the rubber enough to get the barb through it. The hangers closer to the muffler don't have a barb though, they're slid through the rubber and then have a bend to them. Looks like an "S". That one was a bitch to get off!

The passenger side I will need to replace. The rubber is sagging and all distorted/stretched/cracked.

I am thinking about running side pipes though. Haven't really made up my mind. I don't think hangers are used for them, could be wrong

If I spend more than a half to hour on them, I just get a knife and cut the beaches off. They get hard from being under the car and aren't very pliable.
