already had one post and got no answers so ill make this short and sweet. its an 89 mustang 5.0 EFI. car runs and drives without the MAF plugged in. runs rich and back fires a little. some times it sounds like it may be a pop sometimes. plug in the MAF and it dies immediately. what could it be and how do i check it???

Most likely a bad MAF sensor. You could either swap it with another MAF that you know is good or try pulling codes. Is pulling codes an option?

i did get a new MAF. its a promracing MAF and its already pre calibrated to my whole setup... could it be a bad map sensor or a vacuum leak. i tested the voltage on the Maf connectors and its getting a steady 12.4 or so between the pos-neg and a steady 5.2 i believe at the signal wires. so i believe the Maf and wiring is good but what other sensors issues could it possibly be.

I meant that if getting it somewhere to pull the codes was an option then do that. So my next question would be since you scanned for codes, did you clear the computer of codes, plug the MAF back in, and let it run before scanning it again? You said there was a faulty induction system but it wasn't specific and there were no codes at all?

ya. thats all it said. and it had no specific codes. then again its an older computer any ways. ob1. they needed to plug it in directly to there computer and scan the history report and such. nothing specific though. and i dont get a code when its plugs in and running for the few seconds it will. i unplug it. it runs fine and throws a code
