Default Hood clearance, how much more room do I need!

To clear THIS trainwreck and to get a 3" tall breather to fit.. Pic looking across the fenders.

I'm looking at a Boss inc 95 style cobra R hood but am not sure if the 3" cowl is enough.

The 3" will be plenty. Do you have a pic of the engine bay so I can see what area it is?

One way to tell to be 100% sure is take a piece of string and tape it on the fenders at the hood line on both sides. After you do that, measure to the top of the carb with the air cleaner on it. Quick, easy, and no guessing.

That's easy enough. But how much does the stock mini cowl hood rise over the edges of the fenders?

Yeah you need to throw the air cleaner on it. The carb is going to bed the tallest point, which is good because the tallest part of any hood is in the center

Put the string at the same points on the bottom of the hood and take a measure

Works both ways
