It cranks but won't start when cold
Hi,
I just bought a 1985 Mustang GT 5.0. The car won't start from cold, but when is hot, it will start without problem. Basically, here is what I see:
1. I am starting from cold and the engine cranks, but won' start
2. When cranking, the fuel gauge drops to empty
3. When switch the key to on, the fuel gauge shows half full
4. The previous owner told me that the carburetor might need a new pump.
Please help with possible solution to start the car. By the way, I am new to the Mustang, so please provide detail what I should be checking for as well as where is the located.
Thank you in advance for all your members help.

First, on any "no start" situation, we need to know what's missing, spark or fuel ?
Your problem sounds fuel related, but for giggles, on the next " no start" check for spark.
2nd thing I'd do is on a cold motor, pop the air cleaner off and with a flashlight, open the throttle a couple times looking for fuel being sprayed down the carb from the accelerator pump circuit. If that's good, verify you have a working choke plate. Sometimes I've seen them removed for some unknown reason.
