AOD Transmission FIX
Hey everybody, I was having some problems with the 3 speed +1 in my 89' mustang convertible, and I'd tried everything and searched all over to find a solution. I couldn't find anything on it, so I thought I'd make a thread for anyone else having the problem.
Symptoms: Shaking and sputtering in certain RPM ranges, almost feels like an engine problem
Fixes: What worked for me was a combination of two things. First, I replaced my transmission fluid filter. Check your fluid for chips and make sure it's still good. If not, get it flushed. If there are excessive metal shavings and chips, you may have a gear problem or a more serious transmission issue. This fixed the problem but there was still a shaking and sputtering around the 23-27mph range. I used this stuff from "Dr. Tranny" called Lubegard, that goes in with your fluid and lubes up your transmission. It worked perfectly and fixed the shuttering altogether.

what you were experiencing was most likely torque converter shudder, its caused by the lock up clutch in the converter not locking up smoothly, fluid condition is usually the cause. nice to see you got to the bottom of it.
