tunrs over no start sometimes
I have a 1989 GT, the car will start fine on the first start. Runs great, no rough idle no dyeing. I can run in the store real quick come back and it will crank but no start.. I hooked a fuel gauge to it I have plenty of fuel, I hooked a spark tester to it, I have spark. I tried running the codes but it will not read them?? any idea on what could cause it to do this? Thanks guys.

Pull your TFI module off your distributor.

Then, take it to your local parts store, they can test it. Have them run the test 3 times to get it good and hot, this is when they fail if they're bad.
You'll need a special little wrench to take it off if you don't want to grind down one of your own sockets. They are a couple bucks only, and carefully pull down when removing the module from dizzy.

Possibly, depending on how you removed it. They should just slide straight down with a little force. But if it was removed using a hammer and screwdriver to pry it off, the dizzy could be damaged.
Did you get a Motorcraft brand TFI ? All others don't have a good reputation, even when new.

I should have asked this before to clarify, does it start right back up after it cools down for 10-15 minutes ?
That's a classic case if the TFI module being bad. Even being new, it's free to get it tested. Just to rule that out before digging deeper.
When you replaced it, did you put a coating of dielectric grease on the back of it ? I've heard that it helps insulate it from the heat.

New update! I had a guy come over the house and his brother new a thing or two about these Mustangs.. He asked if while cranking on it did it smell like gas very badly and it did.. He then told me to replace the coolant sensor on the intake the one with only one wire on it.. I did and have not had a no start since and this was on Sunday.. Apparently if that sensor is going out or has gone out the system floods it with fuel for some reason??? All I know is I replaced that $8 dollar part and the car is perfect again! Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it! Hopefully someone else will benefit from this post as well as I have with other post.. Great website thanks guys!
