C4 Trans and an AOD
Just wondered if I could swap out my c4 for an aod? Are they the same length and what all would I have to change. I wanted to keep the c4 but a aod is all I can find right now and I just need it back on the road. Thanks

RE: C4 Trans and an AOD
dude i would never do that. you can buy a brand new crate C4 for the price of an aod rebuild.
as far as i remember the only things different are : flex plate, shifter , tranny mount, ???? i wanna say 2 more things but can't remember, but those for sure. and a decent aod converter is like $500 so this is something you should think about.

RE: C4 Trans and an AOD
well its actually not my car. Its my buddies 86 and it had a c4 in it. He doesn't have much money to put in it right now and we can't find a used c4 around here. We found a couple used aod's cheap. He just needs to get it back on the road for now. I know the c4 is better than the aod. One of the aod's is out of a 85 grand marqui that had a 302 in it. I was wondering how much work it would be to use that trans. Thanks

RE: C4 Trans and an AOD
The c4 slipped bad, and the front seal was out. We were looking for a used c4 to go back in it but the only thing we can find around here (that he can afford right now) is an aod. A guy has a 302 and aod out of a mercury marqui and he said he would take $100 for the trans. Thats why we were looking to go that route just to get the car back on the road. Do you know what all we would have to change? Thanks

i am almost certain the tailshaft is too long on that aod. replacing it consists of a teardown, replace the tailshaft, and output shaft
but i wanna say the driveshaft will fit.
