yeahhh... If you look I origanilly posted; 11/26/2007
and now its creeping up on $5 and showing signs of easily getting to $6 before the year is out.
How about $10/gallon? I think it could very well happen, and soon.
Well I STILL want to drive my AMERICAN RWD V8 car. To be able to do so I have been looking around and gathering ideas. I have started putting the ideas together in this documnent.

http://www.thatmetalbox.com/automoti...tangfoxMPG.htm

I have started my Max MPG build, I have my destroked 289 H.O. roller EFI engine, T5 to swap my light notchback car over to manual trans, actually while I do that I am using a 11" hydraulic clutch parts sourced from ford vans and turbocoupes. I think I will use the 3.27:1 gears from my CHP SSP I still have. I also have the 2.73:1 that came with my white 1991 notch (they are in the trunk and 4.11:1 are currently installed along with a blown AOD; bought it that way) I also have 3.55:1 gears from the thunderbird turbo but am thinking that the 3.27 might actuallly net best MPG based on what I have been told/read/researched. I documented some of that info, check it out in the document, and please provide suggestions omissions if you could, thank you

I am also lowering the car 2" with racecraft's drop spindles, using underdrive pulleys & electric fan and thinking of using 4 cylinder wheels/tires and/or the aluminum spares for front. Using the FMS aluminum driveshaft. I have chosen my cam its a Crane roller cam, equal-length shorty headers, am now researching what tuning aid I should use the Anderson PMS perhaps, also keeping the stock drums adding a spring to stop any drag, better than discs, its in the document!

i am looking at getting a 1988 ford ranger with a 302 V8 5.0 litre from a mustang(1994) with a c4 transmission 8.8 ford rear diff. Do not know ratio but at 100 km on highway about 2100 rpm. 3.55 ratio approx. what kind of MPG do u think that would get??

any info would help! =)

thanks!

Idk what y'all complain about. My car gets a sweet 24mpg and I drive like an *******. Pretty sure if I lower the gear ratio from 3.73s, I'll get even better.

don't bump a 4 year old thread with a unrelated question, create you're own thread......no wait......don't because no one can give you an exact answer and if you have to ask about mpg of a v8 and the worries of owning/ driving such, you can't afford the pain at the pump and you should be looking at buying a toyota prius...nuff said, thread closed
