Default OMG...I finally succumbed to the 'Stang

I need some help people. I've been around here for a while, and I always liked mustangs. I just picked up a 79 Foxbody 2.3L turbo w/ 5.0L swap for $300 bucks from my brother-in-law. I know right, it's about time. what is the quickest way into the 11 second bracket? My Z will be there by next week, hopefully. Nothing like having 2 quick street cars out in front of the house.

I'm sure the 7.5" rear end, as well as the stock iron heads have to go. I'm not opposed to spraying the motor as is. Is it ok to run the single exhaust @ 3.5" to maintain a sleeper look? Should I just swap the crossmember and run a good H-pipe and 2.5" dual pipes w/ downturns? I've seen 150 shots run reliably on the 5.0L, how would a 347 stroker hold up? I know the pistons and ring lands are shorter, but forged parts should hold up as a track car. Right? What other parts, besides top end will I need to look at for running around a 200 shot?

first of all what is your budget?

if it's a mostly stock '79 motor, your going to need ALOT. because that thing is probably making 180hp if your lucky.

i would go ahead with the duel exhaust, forget that single crap, get the suspension dialed in (subframe connectors, springs, shocks, struts,) as much weight reduction as you can (remove everything you dont need)

as far as spending money, its all on you. you should know by now being around here what works.

200shot ive seen it done, just dont spray at a low RPM, the torque is to much. get the suspension and weight handled, and slap a 150 shot on it, and i bet it will run pretty quick.

the 7.5 needs to go ASAP too. I could go on and on

depending on what the motor is / your budget, there are a couple of ways

First off, the stock blocks can only handle about 500hp safely, that said, a 347 and suspention could probably get you 11's N/A. and youd still have room for a little more. Theres also the option of an H/C/I with F/I, depending on what kind of F/I, that would set you about the same/more than the 347 power wise, and youd be in 11's (with suspention, without it youll just spin/wheel hop...)

Lastly, if your rich, just buy a Dart 351 block, 408 stroker kit, and all the fun stuff for that, and run 10's (with suspention)
