I gotta see some photo's of this...sounds sick and twisted!
Years ago, one of my neighbors had a Mercedes 240D with a carb'd 5.0 and a T-5...but some nice drunk ran a red light and turned it into a German horseshoe...

Here are some pictures as promised.
Got a preliminary cut in the firewall. Cut the floor out of the trunk. Got part of the unibody boxed in the rear. And got the lower control arms installed. Still need to brace up the unibody around the control arm mounts and the unibody in the trunk, then on to the upper arms and coilover mounts.
The rear is sitting pretty high in the pics, It is actually sitting on wood blocks to hold the HUGE tires from rubbing the fenderwells. It will be lower when completed

Nice build! No offense but the VW scene is terrible. My friend drives a 02 jetta on coilovers with miro's. every vw owner does the same thing. Suspensions wheels roofrack. no roof rack for me!
The vw scene is terrible, thats why this is posted here, and not on the vw forums.
As for the wheels and tires, they are all I have until my adapters get here, then it should develop a more proper stance.

since you are already doing a ton of metal work, you should consider getting the axle shortened, then tub the rear, and really get some meat under there.
Please dont try to run on a 24" radial, like those cars take...

I am not going to fully tub it, but I am going to try and get some decent rubber under there. Going to stick with a 15 or 16 inch wheel, and my ride height will not be stupid low like the rest of the VW group.
Wheels and tires are a long way off at this point though, I got some cheap adapters for now, to use some 16's with 205 40's I have laying around (to roll around on until I make a wheel and tire choice, which will be after its running, and moves under its own power)
It will be unconvetional by vw build standards
as usual, thanks for the interest!

update:
Got a crossmember started for the upper control arms. Made it with multiple mounting hole locations, with the middle as what I got for a location using the 4 link calculator. From there I can adjust to my liking, or for more or less "hit" on the tires
The pics are kinda crappy. It was getting dark out (not many lights in the garage yet). I plan on tieing it into the downbars for the cage and also tie it back to the rear most crossmember. The inside of the trunk should look like a jungle gym when its done.
I also included a picture of the wheels I will be running. 17x7.7 et 42. Gotta get the coilovers in so i can determine what size tire I can clear in the back.
Still need to finish reinforcing the unibody, install the cage and notch the unibody for axle clearance
