Would this really be a problem with a trans rated at 500ft lbs of torque and my car?
first of all go with the TKO600

the trans and axles should be ok, but having a rear let go SUCKSSSSS

Random question.
Why not go with a well built T5? You geta lightwieght tranny and from what Ihave read a very smooth shifting tranny.
I have been doing some research on doing an AOD to T5 swap and was wondering the same thing "which 5 speed to go with". I have found several T5s built to handle some extreme duty for the same price as some built TKO600s.
Just curious?
Thanks

from personal experience id go with a tko 500 the 600 was nice and all but the first gear ratio was too tall for any type of drag racing or street racing. with 3.73's and a 27" tire i was at 37-40 mph before i had to shift. Car would bog on the line to no matter where i left in the rpm range. The 500 would have been much better for street racing or drag racing. If your just gonna dd it and get on it from rolls id go with the 600. Maybe look into a jerico if your gonna be racing it. Never had a shifting issue with my 600 and zoom stage 2 kevelar clutch shifted at 6500 every single time at the drag strip power shifting it and it never skipped, jammed, or missed.

They claim to be stronger but in the end the design of the gear cluster and shafts is where the weak link is.

it doesn't matter what they are rated to, it's how hard you drive them.......I have pics of a t-5 of mine that failed under load, just cause one gets away with it doesn't mean another will, I've gernaded t-5's and rear with high rpm launches before on a basically stock 5.0 that ran mid 13's

T5's make great road race trannies because they have small internals and kept the weight down, but go drop the clutch on a 347 with slicks at 6000rpm and let me know what the inside of it looks like...

drag duty/heavy duty anything = TKO 600, T56 magnum

road race/street car with no slicks = built T5

I'll probably not be drag racing it, maybe once or twice a year IF that.
This will be my DDer and street driving is what its going to be seeing. At the moment its stock besides shorty headers, cat-back and K&N kit. I have pullies that I'll be putting on soon to.

So, a built T5 say with G-Force case and complete gear set. G-Force gears are considerably larger than stock. That wont handle any serious power?

I wish I could find a used TKO500 for the price of a used T5, hah.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the info.

DEF have to index the 500/600, otherwise you will have the problem of shifting (i did) Other then that they are great transmission! i loved my 600
