Default Brake Help I know nothing about this

Hey guys new member here!! This is my first post so I figured I would make it count.. I have a 91 GT All Stock!!! I was lucky enough to find this car and bought it off of the original owner who bought it as a mid life crisis car needless to say the only thing that was done to this car is an exhaust with H pipe. I am looking to make my first mod to the car and that being MAJOR brake upgrades. As we all know stock fox brakes suck.. But at the same token I am not rich or very knowledgeable about what will go on my car from another car.. I guess what I am wondering is does anyone know if there is a Kit to change the rear drums to disc. I really don't want to get away from the 4 lug. I love the stock pony rims and am going to keep them so any help would be appreciated.. Thanks everyone!!

ssbc makes a kit for rear disc and 4-lug. Dont know anything quality though. The 93 cobra is also a 4 lug rear disk setup but im not sure what all is needed to run those.

They are the same exact brakes, with the only difference being the mounting bracket to use stock length axles.

Welcome newby! Your thread has now been moved since it is NOT a tech thread...tech thread is for those who have issues and asking for help

SVO 72MM front Calipers (steel pistons) w/ hawk pads, stainless steel braided lines, stainless steel caliper bushings.....should take care of the front pretty cheaply

If you want to do a rear disc swap and keep 4 lugs I suggest finding a tbird svo rear end locally. I found mine for $150 and I love it. You will find them in either a 3.55 or 3.73 ratio. The aftermarket kits are much more expensive. The only thing is you'll be 3/4 of an inch wider on each side and will need to swap the speed gear in the tranny. I have somewhat of a "write-up" to help the pre 87 folks since the 79-86 setup is different which shows the width difference with my cobra r's. It made my wheels flush, and I love it.

For the front the svo calipers as suggested make a great upgrade, I did so with my car and am very happy with it and is 100% a direct bolt in. The only thing I find to be difficult was the banjo bolts wanted interfere with the struts, so pay attention to them if you go this route, it may be different for you though.

If you can find my post it may help you in your decision, im on my cell phone so cant link it but study the swap a little before attempting, there is a ton of info and options out there. I wil gladly answer any questions you may have, good luck!

Oh and forgot to mention, I looked up phenolic for myself when doing the swap, apparently it breaks down when it gets too heated for extended periods of time, so if you plan to race go metal, for basic driving phenolic should be fine

Yes, yes it does BUT that kinda doesn't matter when the piston is surrounded by a huge chunk of iron known as the caliper itself...where is that disipated heat gonna go?

To find the ones with the steel pistons you need to find the ones with the S at the end of the part number....and the greatest thing about this swap is that it is SUPER CHEAP!!!
