Oops. T-4(5) rebuild is an AOD
Obviously, I am a non-tech. I asked what it would costs to rebuild a T-4 and found out it is actually a T-5, and that the T-5 is a standard and I need help with an AOD.
Any idea on what the cost would be to rebuild or buy a rebuilt AOD for my '90 5.0 LX?

You sound confused lol.
Sorry, I don't have a better answer, but an AOD is going to cost more than a T5. I'm going to guess $1200-1400. That might even be alittle low. Are you set on the auto? Best mod I did to mine was the T5 swap. It really isn't that much work and the paybacks are well worth it.

It would cost about a grand for a standard rebuild. Should be able to find a working AOD on craiglist for 1-3 hundred. I'd forget about swapping to a manual if your having a hard time telling a aod from a T5 apart.

Yes, the console and seats, and part of the dash to drop the steering column. It wasn't that bad, if you can turn a wrench and a screwdriver, you can do it. The only hard part was mounting the pedal assembly, I took some breaks on that part, just to stop the bleeding.,
Thanks for the compliments on my car, BUT, pictures make it look alot better than it is. I tried painting it myself, and it really went bad. The owner of the very nice paint gun I used had it set up for 2 part, I used a premixed paint that didn't flow well and hence my username. Live and learn, I may try it again, cause I can't do any worse.
As for power, my car put down 270hp/290trq with the AOD. I swapped to the T5 and added an electric fan, I'm now at 300hp/316trq at the wheels. Same dyno and weather conditions. I feel the T5 frees up at least 20-25hp, but when driving it feels like alot more,
I'll see if I can find that link to the list of what you need and a step by step thread with pictures to do the swap.

Same console, there is no difference. When I removed the auto shifter and cover, the T5 shifter and boot slid right in in its place……easy peasy. There is some trimming needed on the tunnel but only like 1/2", tin snips worked as its very soft metal.
