1967 289 distributor firing order
Hello, I'm newto this forum with a question that is puzzeling me. I have a 289 engine with pertronix ignition, mid cam, and Holley 600. I've recently replaced the spark plugs and noticed that the firing order was incorrect. The number 1 plug wire on the distributor islocated at the 6 O-Clock positionwith thefiring order for the 289 (15426378-counter clockwise). I tried to wire it correctly as stated in the repair manual with the number 1 plug at the 12 O-Clockposition and the engine just turned and didn't start. So, I rewired it the way that I original found it when purchased. I've owned the 67 since December 2007 and am finally finding some time to work on my car.
Does anyone have their distributor wired the same way? If so, why?
Any feedback is well appreciated. Thanks.

#1 is determinedwhen you drop the dizzy in the engine. It'sthe position of the rotor in relation to the cap. You can technically drop in a dizzy with the motor at any position, then locate TDC, identify the rotor position, set that plug wire for#1, and run you wires accordingly, set timing, and you should be good to go. Often, the vacuum advance determines the position of the dizzy, and #1 is usually in the 12 oclock position. Clear as mud?
