I've been chewing on this for a couple days now. I'm running Brenspeed's standard non-intercooled V3 kit. The car puts down at least 400rwhp and around 365rwtq now. Brenspeed sells an aftercooler upgrade which turns the kit into their Vortech HO kit exactly. The upgrade comes with a 10 lb pulley and the air-water charge cooler / heat exchanger (and an updated tune, of course). Its $1765.

Brenspeed estimates 440rwhp on the HO kit, and says that my IATs would go from ~130 degrees (after a couple of runs with my foot in it pretty well) to probably around 100. Its no mystery that this would result in an overall faster car with more consistent power. I contacted my shop and it'll cost me around $600 to get the kit installed. Thats including labor, anticipated shop supplies, tax, etc. So I am looking at close to $2400 total, and there is the dilemma. I'm having a hard time deciding if its really worth it or not.

I think what really triggered this is I was out on Friday night driving around a bit. It was a nice night so I got to nail it a few times and was pleased overall... until a BMW SUV behind me whipped around me off a stoplight when I was in second gear (assuming because he heard/saw me playing a minute before). I nailed it in 2nd and left him behind, but frankly not all that hard. He was never going to catch me, but it wasn't an all-out raping, lol.

I'm asking the wrong crowd here I know (we're all whorish bastards ), but what do you guys think? $2400 for a more consistent 40 rwhp worth it?

Should've just got the saleen twin screw now. The savings on the vortech vs. the saleen stage 3 is well under a thousand.

 

$2,400 for 40RWHP doesn't sound like a great deal to me. Spend >$700 and get a 75 shot of N20 for when you need it

 

Wasn't interested in that blower before, and I'm not interested in it now. The car is fast as-is. I'm willing to bet its faster than 90% of the cars on here, save the guys running crazy turbos and HO kits. But you know, a little more never hurts, lol.

 

I wouldn't mess with nitrous on a boosted engine with stock internals. I suspect there is more to the HO kit than just 40 peak hp ask to see a dyno sheet comparison before/after conversion or if they have run a car down the 1/4 before and after the HO conversion. I also dont know about a $700 kit.. when I've read people who put together a good full kit with everything like window switch, remote bottle opener, bottle heater and everything they said close to $2000. he would probably also need to up his fuel pumps/injectors or do a wet shot. and I would still think its risky.

 

Yeah this is kind of where I'm at, minus the nitrous though. I'm wondering if I should even bother at all....

no matter what you do, someone is always going to be faster. Just decide what it's worth to you.

 

Yeah but it isn't fast enough now riiiight?? I guess it's water under the bridge. To me the vortech makes more sense if you aren't going to go IC. Saves you a ton of money and you know the rewards... nice.

But if you wanna go vortech + IC the extra cost puts you up pretty close to the TS IC'd.
