'03 Mach 460 - What am i working with?
I just bought my car and would like to possibly upgrade parts of the audio system. I've done some browswing of the forum and all that I've found is that my front speakers are 6x8's and there are two subs behind my rear seat. At this time I'm thinking of upgrading some of the speakers. Can someone tell me the following information about all the speakers. Thanks.
Location
Size
1-way, 2 way or ??
Ohms
Mounting depth
One last question....How is the system set up? Are there line level wires connected to the amps which power all the speakers or does the head unit have an amp that powers some of the speakers?
Thanks for all your help,
Al aka Newbie

RE: '03 Mach 460 - What am i working with?
Did some research (looked the used car "sticker" that came with my car ) and it says that I have (4) 2.5" and (4) 5.5"x7.5" speakers. It also says there is a 60-watt equalized amp and (2) 85-watt subwoofer amps. If I'm understanding this correctly, the amp in the head unit powers the 4 tweeters and the amps power the 4 subwoofers. That said, are the 5.5x7.7's as the sticker said, subwoofers or doe they also contain a mid driver and what is the ohm rating on them?
I'm looking to improve the bass and realize that I should probably be starting with the head unit but being that it's a convertible, I am trying to avoid adding "bait" for theives, therefore trying to utilize the stock head unit with upgraded subwoofers.
If I do decide to add a new head unit can I utilize the stock amps or should I replace them with a 4 channel amp? Does ttocs's "Page 2" instructions work for my '03 460?
Thanks,
Al

the 5 x 7's front and rear are the woofers. They use the 2.5's to carry all the mids and highs. You cannot simply replace the woofers as they are 2 ohm and you will not find a 2 ohm 5 x 7 woofer unless it says ford/jbl on it. If you want to improve the bass you can simply add a sub and amp or get a self amplified system to the factory system.
