08 V6 Pony Package Speaker Upgrade
I've finally decided to put the profit sharing to good use and I've decided to upgrade the Shaker 500 System. I'll give you the rundown of what I'm putting together, but have NO idea what I'm gonna power it with. Again, if you've read some of my other threads you'll know that I've played with some speaker configurations, but I read a LOT of people here use Kappas so I thought I'd give 'em a try. Lemme know what you think about the speaker choice and if you guys know of a better amp configuration to help bring out the sound.
Head Unit
- Kenwood DNX8120
Doors/Rear Deck
- Infinity Kappa 682.9cf 2-100w RMS, 300w max
- Profile AP1040 80w x4 @ 4ohms
Door Subs
- Kicker CompVT 08CVT84 50-200w RMS, 400w max
- Profile AP1200 2-Channel Amp 200w x2 @ 4ohms
Trunk
(1 Sub)
- Infinity Kappa 122.7w 300w RMS, 1400w max
- Eclipse Eclipse ZA1200 1000w x1 @ 4ohms
(2 Subs)
- Infinity Kappa 122.7w 300w RMS, 1400w max
- Haven't found an amp that would work if I went the 2 sub route
That said, I'm worried about a couple of things:
(1) SO many different brands
(2) Multiple Amps
(3) Over/Under Powering Speakers

I'm a much bigger fan of Boston Acoustics and Polk. Smoother sounding to my ears.
As for your concerns. The number of brands is not as critical as you would think, especially because it's only the lower freq's where you are mixing it up.
You sub amp will launch you 12" sub into low geosyncronys orbit. That thing has more than triple the rated power the subs can handle. Remember to use only RMS numbers when shopping an amp for your speaker choices. Max ratings are BS and don't help much in your choices. You should also keep the rating of the amps a little bit below the max RMS rating of your speakers, just for safety and longevity of all your equipment. This will also result in a smoother sounding setup.
