Default Wanting to upgrade my Mach 460 system

Well I'm getting my mustang soon! 2000 V6 with the mach 460 system and the audio quality is crap. I would like to put a Kenwood unit in and remove the cd player completely. I also want to run 2 10" subs in the trunk. I've read that you have to have some kind of adapter or something to do this? I'm not sound system smart so I'm just confused as to how I can get what I want because I heard the Mach 460 already has an amp?

Cody if you are going to replace your radio and speakers too. just follow the wiring instructions for your radio. You will be eliminating the entire mach 460 system including the amps. and speakers. You will also need the plastic stereo mounting adaptor that your kenwood will mount into. that will replace the space where your mach 460 stereo used to be in the dash.

Why should I have to remove the amps? I didn't know there were any in the car to begin with...

If you have an aftermarket stereo it may just be wired wrong.
It should not sound all that bad. the mach 460 system sounds fairly good all by itself.

If it plays but sounds weak and tinny it could be:

wired wrong
burnt fuse for amps
the wrong harness ( only one plug )

If that was the case the stereo would still play but sound terrible.
It is playing through the tweeters and small mids.
There would be no power to the amps!
No full range, no subs, = NO BASS.

Mustangs w/mach460 can be a little confusing to hook up correctly.

Well right now the system is 100% stock but there's little to no bass and the speaker quality sounds crappy.

I would check to see if the fuse for the amps is blown. If it is it would sound bad.
otherwise the speakers may just be blown. or the amps quit working.I forget which fuse it is. You can find it in the owners manual.

if your car was in a wreck and the door replaced you may not have the Mach 460 speakers in the door, you could have wal mart brand replacements or something. Does your car have a clean title?

You should be satisfied with a correctly working mach460 system. The speakers arent crap at all and 90% of people wont be able to tell the difference between them and some fancy expensive Bose package; ESPECIALLY if you have loud exhaust.
