Default Cost Estimate: lower quarters and drops offs....

...

Hey!

My lower rear quarters have old patches in the them, and my drop offs need a little help. The patches were "80's style". Not good enough for me.

Can some of you give me some general estimates on what it would cost to get these done professionally? I will supply the sheet metal, so exclude that. I just want it back in primer, no paint required. Professional work would be butt welds right? No overlap?

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

Don't have to be accurate. Bad estimate is ok.

i just did a set of lower quarters and drop offs about 3 weeks ago on a 68 coupe cut and replaced with finish work ready for paint . i would have got 900 for doing it but needed the side work so did them for 600. hope that helps

Stang,

Thank you for taking time to help. Im just trying to plan my long term budget and didn't know what figure to use.

I was guessing 600.

When you say professionally, it means you are going to pay someone to do it. May not be what you're expecting. They will replace them, but it may not be butt welds, etc. You will need to specify what you want. I think $600 is an accurate expectation.

Yeah, I want the best quality and best type of weld which my very novice self thinks are butt welds. Is that right?

I will definitely spell it out to the shop. Thanks.

Either weld will hold the car together, lap or butt welds. If the welds are never going to be seen, like 90% of them, go with what is cheaper and easier. These cars were only spot welded from the factory. A good weld will hold 20,000 lbs, at least that is what I was told. These are just trunk drop offs and quarters, nothing structural, you'll be fine with a lap weld. Quarters will want to be butt welded if those are being replaced, not because it is better, but that is the process involved to get them to line up right and smooth.
