Hi all,

as the subject says - I've purchased 65 mustang lately. I have the VIN# but the door tag was lost some time ago.

I am wondering if there is any way to find out what the numbers were ? Any ideas ?

I did some research and I guess the only thing we can get from VIN is production date. Rest #s on data plate we can guess.

Were data plate # located somewhere else on the car ?

Did you check the top of the driver's side fender apron under the hood? There's a Vin # there, see if thats what you're looking for.

I know where VIN is located. I was wondering if having the VIN I could retrieve data plate numbers somehow.

Most likely no.

Even if there was a door plate, it might be a replacement door (that's why vins were moved to the dash after 65). You can get a replacement tag by having one made based on the physical car, like digging for the orig. paint, etc. If there's any early service, dealer or registration docs you can try to pinpoint the DSO. Everything on the tag is lost but the vin.A lot of us just guess on the info like paint and interior.
