69 GT Special Order Long Shot Query
I am brand new on this board but a long time Mustang Fan. I bought a new 66 2+2 in 66 and a new 69 GT in 69. I now have a 09 Roush P51 listed as a "prototype" but it was really built well into the P51 run.
I have a long shot query for the group that requires a bit of a story.
In the late Fall of 68 I decided to buy a new Mustang. I went to Inskeep Ford in Greenfield Indiana and had my first look at the new Mach 1. I loved the car but wasn't fond of the black hood. I first tried to order one without the black but was told it wasn't possible. I then got out the dealer order book and optioned a GT with everything that was on the M 1. High Back seats, 351, 4bbl, 4 speed, slotted wheels, hood pins, white letter tires, etc. Then I found a gun metal gray paint sample in the Lincoln sales book. I ordered the car with the gray metallic paint and red interior. The car was stunning (in my opinion) and I drove it for a few years before going to the dark side and trading it for a Firebird. Since the car was special ordered in a non standard paint code and full of the M 1 options in a GT , I am thinking that if it still exists it may be remarkable due to its uniqueness. Anybody in the Midwest know of the car? I sure would like to find it and buy it back. I know that it is probably a refrigerator three times over by now but I can hope.
Thanks for indulging an old fart!

Welcome to the forums! Do you have any pictures? I'm sorry that I don't have any leads, I don't live in the mainland but from what you describe it sounds beautiful. I hope that you [we] find it.

Welcome to Mustang Forums! The only thing I can think of to do is to contact Mustang clubs and ask them. It could take a while but most have websites that you can email thru. You might get lucky. You never know . . .
