Need Sanity Check
Hello All,
First post....be kind.
Ok, after a year of searching I found and purchased a 65 mustang fastback A code 4spd that I am ready to get down and dirty with. Ready to start ordering the drive train parts and need feedback if anyone sees any red flags in the setup here. I work several hours a week at work and just need an out-of-the-box so to speak solution. Don't need a low 12's race car but want it to be plenty fast.....
This will be a non-air car with power steering only.
Block Ford Racing 347 short block (I've had a 351 in a 65 before and just don't want the header hassles)
Edelbrock Performer RPM Alm. Heads 2.02 intake ( I believe the 6.55cc vale relief’s should be enough for the larger 2.02) Anyone know?
Edelbrock Torker Plus Cam and lifter kit (recommended for the F-28 intake)
Edelbrock F-28 Dual Quad intake
2 x Edelbrock #1404 500CFM carbs
T-5 Ford Racing 5spd. w/ Ford Racing bellhousing
I have a 9" Ford out of a Lincoln to put in it.
Ignition I'm not sure about, some Mallory setup I'm sure.
Thanks in advance.

RE: Need Sanity Check
Welcome. I also have a 65 FB. It has the R302 block, stroked to 347 inches. I am running a set of TEA Victor Jr. heads, and a Super Victor Intake. Had an MSD 6AL but now has a MSD Digital Prog. 7.
It just so happens that I use to run the Performer RPM's with FMS 1.6 RR's and still have them here. The car is primarely a drag race car now, but still sees the streets once in a while. Let me give your combo some thought....

I took a look at the FMS catalog and the 347 CID Short Block. M-6009-B347. I was not too impressed with the hyper eutectics and the cast iron crank. At $2500.00 (BTW I can probably do a lot better on price if you still decide to go that way) you might be better off buying a Dart block, and a stroker kit with forged slugs, Eagle H beams, 4340 crank. It would have to be assembled, but the price difference between the two would not be that much. Just some food for thought.
As far as the heads and intake. I dont see any major issues. The question would be wheter you wanted a lot of bottom end "grunt" or top end RPM.

RE: Need Sanity Check
Hey Red347,
Thanks for the reply!
Really looking for an assembled solution... I have been there done that so many times, I really don't have any interest in building the short block...and any machine work that would need to be done. Unfortunately I have more money than time. I would be interested in other assembled 347 short blocks, I have found several on the web but who do I trust....??? The cost of the Ford 347 was up there, but the trust factor is up there too...anyway that how I was justifying the cost. Any suggestions on other companies that build a 347 short block.
The 2x4 thing is just a fetish
I had a 55 Chevy 210 post car with the 2x4 setup and just loved it...
Again thanks for the reply.

Mike,
I amspending tomorrow with the shop that just finished my 347 (a new cam and a freshening for this coming racing season) for an all day engine Dyno session. Let me ask him if he would do a shortblock for you and what the cost might be. Where are you located by the way. He is one of the top builders in the area, and builds motors ranging from 5K to 150K.
