4 speed question

Default 4 speed question

a friend gave me his 4 speed tranny for free. its out of an 82 gt stang. i was wondering if this tranny will fit in a classic?

you may be able to fit it in. personally, try calling mustangsplus or mustang depot and see if they know or have a kit for it.

also, depending on the overall size of the trans, the transmission tunnel will have to be modified (cut out, raised and re-welded).

Is that a side loader or top loader? They did make a 4sp toploader in that era that was od in 4th. The toploaders from that era aren't nearly as strong as the older models, either.

that's why i recommended him to call (unless someone else knows) and find out more info on it. yeah it's possible, but on a personal level i would go with the T5 or T56 or pretty much any tremec tranny.

yeah imma go with a t-5 from modern drive line. they are going to help me build up a tranny so it can take the horsepower from my 302.

i also spoke with moderndriveline about the modifications to the tunnel, they told me i dont need to modify anything cuz the 68-70 had huge tunnels and tko's can fit up there. i just need to open up the shifter hole and buy the tranny mount conversion.
