Default Car runs great but turns off rough - help!

My car idles great, runs smooth, but everytime I turn the car off it goes "ka-clunk ka-clunk" and the body shakes pretty hard.

Any ideas?

Timing might be too far advanced or you need to run more octane in your fuel, probably just the timing though, have it checked.

Do you have an after market igntion such as MSD or Mallory. Sometimes people forget to install the little DIODE that comes with the kit. The DIODE prevents current from traveling to the igntion system when the car is shut off. I had to do the same thing with my car.

Yeah looks like there's a Mallory ignition in there (I just got the car not sure what the hell is in it LOL).

Where do I look for the DIODE ?

Well that looks like a coil to me. Check to see if ther are any other boxes in the engien compartment that say mallory. Go to this website, which has the instructinos that i have for my ssytem. In there on the 4th page ther is the diagram of the DIODE. I hope this helps. http://go.mrgasket.com/pdf/6852M_6853M.pdf
Feel free to ask any questions. If it turns out that you dont have an after market system that the use of a DIODE is not needed, your timing is probably to far advance.

Sounds like its desieling. That could be cause by the timing being off and also from carbon buildup.

Timing too far advance and/or carb idle mixture too rich

Here's a check...turn the car off with it still in drive (you know...slightly different routine.....instead of...brake, come to stop, put in park, turn off key.....brake, come to stop, turn of key, put in park). If it doesn't do ka-chung ka-chung....dial back the timing a couple degrees.

When its warm....like when you run to store, go in and rent a movie, and then come back out to start the car, does it crank slow? This is another indication of too much initial advance
