Default hard starting

Hi. have a 66 289 2v that is very hard to start. I have rebuilt the carb, new fuel filter. I took off the pcv line, and it started right up, but ran at a very high rpm. I have ordered a new valve and line, and was wondering if this might be the cure. If not on to the distributer. Any ideas? Thanks

both your timing and points gap maybe off.

Check gap and timing, youll probably find the gap is too large.

My vote is for some electrical issue. Even with your carb slightly out of adjustment it will generally start. I would check timing, points and rotor. Make sure and clean your point with a fine sandpaper to remove any bumps or dimples.
