Default better brake bang for the buck.

I've been seeing alot of rear disc conversions for the 8 and 9 inch. rearend for like 650, im sure the front is probably more beneficial to convert first tho right?

Yeah and its not really all that safe to have front drums and rear disc, do front first then rear. If you really want a cheap rear fix bolt on bigger rear drums!
