I actually bought one of those FilterMags for my pick-up. I cut the filter housing when I changed it and there were metal particles stuck to the side. I don't know if they would have gotten into the engine or just floated around in the filter casing, but they were there. Most were very fine particles too. Don't know the pore size of the filters. Filtermag does sell tranny pan and oil pan magnets as well.

I believe that the oil filters are designed with a 10 micron (0.01 millimeters) or smaller pore size. Anyhting that would pass through that isn't going to be visible in and of itself. A clump of them might be though. It's interesting to hear from someone who has used a filter magnet and cut it open to see what it accomplished.

I was curious. I think I kept the piece. If I can find it I'll take a picture. If not I'll do it next time I change the oil on Fordzilla.

ya well its gr8 for new engines cause all the particles that are in there cause of all the metal from the metal seating
