that combo sucks, it will scream though

289 with 69 351 heads with a good port and valve job all the usuals a dual quad holman moody intake manifold or edelbrock air gap dual quad two holley 4150's at 350-390 cfm's each, new valvetrain w/hotter cam about 480-520 lift and290 duration which is verysimilar to the k code and boss 302 camshafts, I built this exact engine for a friends car with the holman moody intake, the engine would freely rev to right at 700 rpms and was an absolute screamer...
just curious as to how that combo sucks its a good not to aggresive package that has amazing mid to top end but i welcome your input, i mean true its more a high revving street/road race oriented package i dont worry about quarter mile times so much i build race engines mostly road race engines so thats what i know and was tryin to give him an alternative as i like seeing cars with original engines i hate it when people stick clevelands in 69's and 302's in earlier than 68's etc.

FORGET everything in the last few posts, DUMP the 289. Sell it to me for like $100 and we all will be happy.

I agree. If you want a muscle Mustang, get a 67 and up and mod the hell out of it with big blocks, etc. Keep the 65 and 66's with their 289's and don't add any race related parts to them. Damn it guys, these old 65 and 66 Mustangs were not designed to have race engines in them.

well i guess i should start road racing and quit drag racing, cause it isn't fast enough. Ialmost have the exact combo, the differences are i have a600cfm carb and 12:1 pop up pistons.

The grass is always greener on the other side. You always want what you dont have! Besides, everyone has different opinions, and mine says, stick with that 289, get it to be a good driver, not just a race car( im just relizing this) -Jon

dennis wells of well's racing told me that they were forged .400 dome, but all that was on the piston was a part #. I tried to look it up on the internet and never found anything. I'm either going with a roller 302, or buying aluminum heads to stick on there now and get the 302 later on. And before anybody bashes me for doing this to a 65-66 mustang, it's a 69 so just relax. It shouldn't have a 289 in it anyway.
