Default carb rebuild

i am needing to do a carb rebuild on my stock 302 with a stock carb. i have never done this before and i am wanting to no if i should do this myself or not. i have an older brother who i work on cars with and basically i dont no how to do things i have never seen him do and this is one of those things. is rebuilding a carb a relatively simple thing like just replacing parts and putting on new ones or what? how did it go your first time rebuilding a carb?

I just got done rebuilding the Holley 4160 4 barrel carb on my 67 stang. This is the second carb I have rebuilt, and it just gets easier every time. What carb do you have? If it is a 2 barrel, it is twice as easy. Make sure you get the right kit from your auto parts store. Do a search on Google for rebuilding carbs, I used "How to rebuild a Holley 4160". When you take it apart, just pay close attention to all the gaskets, o-rings, etc that you take apart. Make sure and match your old gaskets to the new ones, as some kits come with many gaskets for many applications. If you are mechanically inclined at all, you shouldn't have a problem.

Yep, did my first one at 15, well first two barrel, had done a bunch of Briggs&Strattons before that. its good info to know, and the best way to learn is to DO IT.. if you have problems, just ask. I didnt have the intrawebnets when I started learning all this stuff. Just a few old magazines, some idiot friends, and a broken car..lol.

The biggest key is to make sure your work area is clean and you don't lose any parts. I take mine apart on a towel that helps capture any smaller parts.

Take a picture and put letters by the parts. We can get it together from there, most likely.

What you got? I might be able to help since I did one less than a week ago. My metering block (I think that is what it is called) had a manufacturing defect in from Holley, it looked like. Had a small casting defect causing a small hole in one area. I put a little JB weld on both sides, then sanded the flat side down real smooth. Works like a champ now. Don't know if it would have affected anything anyway, but just to be sure.
