Default I know you will laugh at me for this question.

Very simple very stupid question...

What is the difference between a 302(60's) and a 302(80-90's)..Just the block. Not the fuel management.
Again please dont ban me because of this question.[sm=laughat.gif]

I want to buy a Used block from junk yard

no real differance besides carbs and fuel injection. also not sure then they changed the numbers on em but they went somewhere in the middle late 70's from 302 to 5.0, ci's to liters

Late model blocks do not have the hole to mount a Z-bar for mechanical linkage.
Late model blocks (85+) have taller lifter bores for roller lifters
Late model blocks are designed to use a 1 piece rear main
Late model blocks have the oil dip stick entering through the side of the block

The block is essentially the same. The later models have roller lifters and a different cam, hence the name "roller 5.0".
- The firing order is different for a 5.0HO vice an early model 302.
- The waterpump on a late model rotates reversed than an early model.
- The imbalance is different. The later models use a 50oz crank imbalance where the early model are 28oz.
- The late model has a rear sump and double hump oil pan, the early model has a front sump and single sump oil pan
- The heads on a late model have thermactor ports that must be plugged.
- The oil dipstick is on the side of a late model, but in the front of an early model.
- The distributor drive gear is different between the two.

+1

they sell adapters from the mustang parts house to rectify the missing hole like 40$
rollers lifters are a definite plus
the dipstick problem can be fixed with a wooden dowel tap into place and it will swell once the hot oil hits it so no leaks
the rear one piece seal is great alot better than a 2 piece

alot of guys get the vintage crank lip turned so they can run a 1 piece rear seal plus u keep the 28oz balance and the vintage rotating is supposed to be more durable
