ARRGHHH! GACK - My eyes!

(BTW- what would it do in the 1/4 mile? or Torque/Hp on the dyno?)

The throw on the crank is longer ( the offset connection points where the bottom, large opening of the rod clamps onto) the longer the arm the more torque produced...
yea....
17.82 sec on 1/4....... had real bad piston ring prob

and english please
no excuses please

and now that you have a real car, and you want some serious power, as stated many times before, stroke your 302 to something like a 327, and put in a heavy duty suspension. see, the thing is with these engines, its really easy to naturally aspire 400 horses with outboost or juice.

so i say, stroke it, OR buy a cleveland crate motor

300-400 hp that actually hooks up will give you plenty to brag about. What's the point of 500+hp if all you're going to do is sit there on your **** burning off all your rubber.

I drove my '68 fastback with a 302 for about 9 years before finally stroking it. Granted, when I say 302, I actually mean several versions of it because I frequently changed cams or manifolds, headers, ignition, all sorts of stuff. I don't know how 'fast' or how many horsepower it ever had at any given time because I didn't race it, nor did I care about numbers. I did care about smokin' the boys from stoplights, though, and I had my share of victories.

But I gotta tell ya, if you've got the money or spread the money out over time and put the parts together yourself, the 347 is the way to go. I didn't build the one I've got, it was a Christmas gift, but the car seriously scoots now. The paperwork claims 410hp. And I get only slightly worse gas mileage than I did before.

I disagree with most of the people that have posted up here. I would pick up a 408 stroker and throw on a turbo or a super charger and push a few pounds of boost in there. Get some traction bars and new springs/bushings for the rear end and let it rip. It is pretty much gaurenteed to make you **** your pants. PAW has some nice kits, I got a 351w longblock from them but wish I had gotten a short block stroker so I could justify buying some aftermarket heads. Good luck on your decision.

ahh now i get it.
bigger crank (longer way) and smaller piston rod. That's it alright. I thought that would equal itself out.
But it doesn't. (even at top but when piston is in down position it's further away from head) ... I just scribbled it down here.

thanks all

I pulled a 351W out of my '65 fastback that was already putting down 340 ft-lbs. to the rear wheels at 1500 RPM. Shifting too hard from 1st to 2nd would break the tires free if you weren't careful. I've "de-tuned" to a 302 with 375hp/394 ft-lb. and it can still give you more than you wished for if you're not careful. How much is enough? I'd say 300hp in a light early Mustang, which is very easily attained in a 302 will get you motoring pretty quickly and still be very streetable.

If you have the coin, go with the brand new crate motor and BE DONE WITH IT!! It will make all the horsepower you will ever need for a driver.
