65 Fastback F Code

RE: 65 Fastback F Code
Let's start with your vin. If the fifth character is a 'U', 'D' or 'F' your car was built in 1964 but Ford called it a 65. Many states did not accept that terminology from Ford and registered those cars as a 64 model year vehicle. Just one of the many mysteries surrounding Mustangs. So to verify what you got, post the first five characters and the first three numbers. It's probably in the FAQ's as Soaring says.

And I left out 'K' on purpose.

RE: 65 Fastback F Code
ORIGINAL: BlackLX
If you're looking at buying it I would stay away from it. It could have been wrecked and then someone clipped it as others are saying. It could also be a '64 1/2 coupe that was converted into a fastback. Or they could have had a 64 1/2 VIN and title and stole the fastback and switched everything over. If it's any of the above the car is worthless IMO.

And if any of you were there my friends 32 Roadster (black/red interior/wheels) was on display. It was the one with the crate 430 hp engine numbered 430 (the last one in the run).

RE: 65 Fastback F Code
In restoring a friends 67 Fastback, the left front apron had to be replaced. Most San Jose built Mustangs have three VIN number (number, I knowit's redundant) stampings, one on the right rear apron and two on the left, one in front (the visible one) and one in the rear. We 'relocated' the second left side one to the front and 'filled' the hole we left at the rear. After some creative grinding, sanding and painting, you can't tell. Sometimes I amaze myself.
There was a local GT350H that had no front end (due to a major accident) except a narrow strip of original sheet mental on the upper left side apron from the firewall consiting of both Ford stamped VIN numbers to 'maintain' the Shelby integrity. It's been done before on Shelbys because of their value.

RE: 65 Fastback F Code
I would appreciate it if someone would lead me to a a fact that there was indeed an F code Mustang engine, and just what in the hell it was. This thread is sounding suspicious, so may go away very shortly if an explanation is not offered up very shortly.

RE: 65 Fastback F Code
Hello.Glen, the vin of my convertibleis5F08F156XXX.It came with a 260 2bbl rated at 164 hp. They were actually quite common between the begining of production and the middle of august in 64. As far as this F code fastback goes, I doubt it veeeeery seriously. As someone else said, it has probably been clipped.Hope that helps.
